So in the last couple of weeks, my "normal" life has been disrupted or changed. First thing I guess is that two Fridays ago, I got onto a research team! So now I'm working with Matt to help him finish parts of his project and then start my own project(s) later. Unfortunately, I don't get paid, but I'm still in my little college bubble that largely disregards money and other economic problems that's causing problems all over the rest of the world. Oh how wonderful college can be :) So far I've learned how to do analysis based on microscopes, and this week hopefully I will work on cell cultures.
Oh I also forgot to mention that for the first time in my life, I have personally gone through a college snow day! It happened some Wednesday in January. In celebration, I decided to sleep in until 12 and then play Pokemon Yellow on my GBC emulator until 5 when I freaked out and started doing homework.
So that's pretty much that I really remember for the week before last and possibly before. Last week, I was suppose to have a psychology mid-term on Wednesday which would have worked perfectly because then I would have a week off from exams, allowing me to have the perfect break to go home. However, thanks very much to the snow storm that closed school, the prof decided to push the exam back, which is very uncool, because he changed it to earlier today. Anyway, this last week basically, I would go to class and then go to the lab after lunch. After a few hours at the lab, I would go back to half-heartedly attempt to complete my homework, which led me to finish my anthropology paper at 4 in the morning Thursday (it was due at 10:30). That also meant that I never took the time to study for my psychology exam, which turned out to be a bad idea, seeing as how I was scrambling to review and memorize everything last night. Volunteering at the hospital was very interesting last week. I did some data entry for Dr. Chelnick, the person that I work for, and on the last page was an opinion thing about how the hospital was when the person delivered her children, and I definitely read some pretty bad experiences. I also went to the neurology clinic, which was surprisingly uncool, though I didn't see all of it. Well actually, it was pretty normal compared to what I've seen in real life, though a certain TV show definitely makes hospitals seem cooler. After volunteering I went straight back to the dorm. After dinner with half of the floor (that I actually talk to), I went to play racquetball with a few of my suitemates. After three pretty intense games, I rode on the bike for 30 minutes and then watched The Office until about 3:30. So basically, Thursday was a really long day, from going to bed really late the night before and going to bed really late that night.
Then Friday, I went to the lab in the morning to finish my work for the week, and then I went back to my dorm and packed my clothes like crazy. My Dad came and picked me up at about 4:20, and we finally got on the road at 5, after picking up Brian. Home cooked food was so good :) Starr and I played video games for quite a while, before I finally went to bed pretty tired. Saturday, I dragged myself out of bed finally at 10:30 and tried to complete my Chinese tests, except the stupid program broke down on me, so now I have to do it on Angela's computer with only a little help from my parents instead of having them basically complete the tests with me at home >:( Actually, I'm very >:( Now I'm super behind, and taking the tests will not take a whole lot longer. After giving up on Chinese, I started review for psychology, but I have to admit, I was pretty distracted, which didn't help that much. I think I got most of chapter 1 in though.
At 3, I took a shower and then left to go shopping. So first I went to Circuit City, since they were having their liquidation sales, but nothing much was left, and the place had so many people getting last minute deals. The line was so long and the stuff was so randomly spread out. After walking around the store, I got dishearted and left. There were a lot less people at JCPenny's, which was good because I found a pair of pants before I left like I was about to go crazy. After some crazy shopping, I went to Perrysburg HS, to go to the debate tournament. Well, at least I tried to go to Pburg. I missed the sign the first time I drove by it because it was stuck between a bunch of random houses/apartments, so I ended up driving into a random farm driveway and doing a T turn to turn around. By the time that I finally got to the tournament, LD had just started their last run-off round, and PF was finishing up. After the tournament (Yay Northview! and Julia), Julia and I went to Panera for dinner, where I found out that they have plastic cups by the drinking fountain for water. I learned something new again that night :P Perhaps I should go to Panera more often, but Potbelly's is definitely better :D I guess that pretty much summarizes the important parts of my life for the past weeks.
Now I'm just waiting for Matt to email me back... I guess I should attack my homework more virgorously when I'm not in the lab, like now... :(
