School has started once again, which requires me to do work that I wouldn't necessarily volunteer to do on my own. Classes-wise, I'm very proud of myself this first week. I actually read all of the chapters that I would cover in class before class! What a miracle. I wonder if this would have helped last quarter, though it doesn't really seem to be helping right now since neither of my professors go by the book. My anthropology teacher did generally follow it, I guess. I think that this quarter should be easier than last quarter? I think it should be easier to find time to study at least. I'm only obligated to go to class four times a week, from about 10 to about 12. So I have all this free time before and after class. To make myself feel better, I thought it would be a good time to brush up on calculus by going to one of my suitemate's 152 class. That should be interesting. Out of the three classes this week, I've already skipped one, whoops. Well, at least I'm not really taking the class. I'll elaborate on the classes that I'm actually taking later on, when I get a better idea of the class.
So on Thursday, I had to go to a couple of meetings. My first meeting was with my academic adviser. So after a quarter, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to major in. At first, I thought biology and psychology, but then after a few weeks and some looking into what the upper level biology major courses were, I decided to switch from biology to microbiology. During break, though, I decided that I still really wanted to just focus on neuroscience. The problem with that is that OSU doesn't actually offer a neuroscience major, just a minor, which kind of stinks. So now I'm even more confused, because I don't know whether I want to keep both of my majors or switch to a single major and a minor. So much thinking. I thought college was suppose to be learning. So after that meeting, I went to my Chinese orientation meeting. The orientation guy seemed kindo f mean in the beginning but after a while I got use to him. I think that he's too much of a Chinese-style teacher. Guess I'll have to get use to that fast if I want to do well in the class. Good thing is I have lots of people who can potentially help me. Potentially being a super critical word here since well, OSU finds it highly necessary to teacher traditional Chinese first, even at all, and I doubt that many of the mainland Chinese people here know traditional Chinese. Oh well, I guess I can't be surprised by any of this. Also, I got a hair cut on Thursday night, so now I have short hair. I also got bubble tea at Momo's after the haircut. It was really good, but I got the cold tea, which turned out to be a bad idea as the temperature outside was definitely below freezing.
Hm... so on Thursday, I decided to not do homework and look up summer intership stuff. I guess it's a good idea that I did because I totally didn't realize that the application for the SURF program at UT is due on February 2. Whoops. I better hope that my teachers (from high school yikes! not good either) are will to write letters for me in three weeks. It would be quite nice to get a position. Also I got a research position at the hospital! Whoo! Except I don't think that I get to do that much, since it's through the volunteering program with the medical center.
Hopefully this coming week will be more exciting. Volunteering starts, and hopefully I'll get some Chinese homework done.
